VERSION 4 Informational 4.24 September 5, 2001 Page 1 of 3 THIN CLIENT ISSUES AND REMINDERS Now that all District Justices and their staffs have Thin Client technology, several issues need to be addressed. Please make sure that all staff in your office read this laser fax. Proper Shut Down It is very important that you sign off both the DJS and the DJ Desktop properly before you turn off the monitor. Otherwise, you may experience reconnection problems when attempting to sign on the next time. Sign off DJS First, sign off the DJS using Option 90. Next, close the active session by clicking the Close button (X) in the upper-right corner of the screen. A Terminal Emulation message box appears that says, "Your network session is still active. Exiting Terminal Emulation will close the connection." Click the OK button in the upper-right hand corner of the message box. If you are not currently signed on to the DJ Desktop, you will return to the Winterm Connection Manager Window. You may now turn off your monitor. Sign off DJ Desktop Click the Close button (X) in the upper-right corner of the Active Word or JNET screen. You will return to the DJ Desktop. Click the Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. (NOTE: If the Start button does not display, move the mouse pointer to the lower-left corner of the screen and hold for a few seconds until the Start button appears.) Next, Click Logoff. The Logoff Windows NT window appears with the message, "This will end your Windows NT session." Click the OK button. VERSION 4 Informational 4.24 September 5, 2001 Page 2 of 3 If you are not currently signed on to the DJS, you will return to the Winterm Connection Manager Window. You may now turn off your monitor. Thin Client Box Remains Powered On Leave the Thin Client box powered on. The Thin Client box is the white box located near your display. Periodically, the AOPC Citrix team will send firmware updates to your Thin Client. For these updates to take effect, the Thin Client must be powered on. Generally, these updates occur during non-business hours, so it is essential to leave the Thin Client box powered on overnight and over weekends. Even if your office has a computer that is seldom used or is inactive, make sure the Thin Client box remains powered on. Disconnects If you see the message on your monitor, "The Host has Lost Connection," try to reconnect one time by clicking the Reconnect button. If you do not reconnect after one attempt, call the DJS help desk. Mouse/Keyboard Lockups If your keyboard or mouse locks up, turn the Thin Client box off and then back on. When you power off the Thin Client box, make sure the power indicator is no longer illuminated. It is very important that the green light has dimmed. If the light remains on, press and hold the power button while counting slowly to 10. Release the button. You may now power on the Thin Client box. If your system still is not responding, call the DJS Help Desk. The AOPC must be aware of these persistent and recurring problems. VERSION 4 Informational 4.24 September 5, 2001 Page 3 of 3 DPMS or Orange Monitor Light An orange monitor light or "DPMS Mode" displaying on your screen indicates that your Thin Client box is not powered on. This is normally the result of a power outage. Simply press the button on the Thin Client box to power on the device. DJS Help Desk and Operations Department When you are working with support personnel at the AOPC, please cooperate with the necessary recovery steps that you are instructed to follow. The new technology has changed many of the past hardware procedures. For example, turning a printer off was a major disruption to your court years ago. Now, turning off a printer disrupts your office very little or not at all. Each afternoon for the next week, we will issue a break message to all users to remind you of the proper sign off procedures and to remind you to leave the Thin Client box powered on. Contact the DJS Help Desk for any clarifications to this laser fax. Thank you for your continued cooperation.
