Pennsylvania Supreme Court Re-appoints Three
to the Committee on Rules of Evidence

HARRISBURG, September 30, 2002 — The Supreme Court of Pennsylvania today announced the appointment of three new members to the Committee on Rules of Evidence.

David F. Binder, Esq., Philadelphia, Lee C. Swartz, Esq., Dauphin County and Ellen M. Viakley, Esq., Allegheny County, were appointed to three-year terms, beginning October 1, 2002.

The Committee of Rules of Evidence was established by the Supreme Court on September 8, 1998 to assist and advise in the preparation, adoption, promulgation and revision of rules of evidence governing proceedings in Pennsylvania courts and on the implementation of the Judiciary Article of Pennsylvania's constitution as it relates to the rules of evidence.

The first members of the committee on Rules of Evidence were appointed by the Supreme Court for initial one-, two- and three-year terms, commencing October 1, 1998. Its 10-member committee ranks consist of one Common Pleas Court judge, eight attorneys in private practice and a law professor — all of whom have extensive backgrounds in trial practice and procedure and are from different areas of Pennsylvania.
