Pennsylvania Supreme Court
Senior Judge Fred P. Anthony Assigned
to Superior Court of Pennsylvania Bench

HARRISBURG, Aug. 21, 2007 - The Pennsylvania Supreme Court today assigned Senior Judge Fred P. Anthony, of Erie County, to a position on the state Superior Court.

The action followed an earlier order by the Supreme Court on Aug. 17 directing that Superior Court Judge Michael T. Joyce be relieved of all judicial and administrative duties as the result of a federal indictment in U.S. District Court of the Western District of Pennsylvania.

From 1971 to 2005, Judge Anthony served as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Erie County. During that time, he was administrative judge of Juvenile Court for 24 years. He became a senior judge after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70 in 2005. For 30 years, Judge Anthony was appointed by a succession of Pennsylvania governors to serve on the Juvenile Court Judges' Commission. He also served on the Juvenile Advisory Committee of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

While performing his duties on the Superior Court, Judge Anthony will work in Judge Joyce's chambers in Erie. He will assume his duties on Monday, Aug. 27 and will serve until further notice of the Supreme Court.
