Court Administrator of Pennsylvania
Elected to National Office
NASHVILLE, TN - August 1, 1996 -- Nancy M. Sobolevitch, Court Administrator of
Pennsylvania, today was elected by her peers as president-elect of the Conference of State Court
Administrators (COSCA) during the organization's annual meeting here.
COSCA consists of the top judicial administrators in the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto
Rico, the Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.
As president-elect of COSCA, Sobolevitch will serve as an adviser to the incoming president. She
also becomes a member of the Board of Directors of the National Center for State Courts (NCSC), a
non-profit organization dedicated to improving the state courts. The Center was founded 26 years ago
with the leadership and support of the late Chief Justice of the United States Warren Burger.
Election to the COSCA office is a prelude to being named president of the organization next year
as well as vice president of the National Center.
Sobolevitch was named Court Administrator of Pennsylvania in 1986. In this position she is
responsible for supervising all activities of the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, which is the
administrative arm of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. As such, Sobolevitch is empowered to carry out
the Supreme Court's administrative duties and is charged by the state Constitution with assuring that the
business of the courts is promptly and properly discharged.
Prior to her appointment to her third branch of State government, as Court Administrator of
Pennsylvania, Sobolevitch served as Executive Assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
From 1975 to 1978 she was Deputy Director of the Governor's Energy Council.
She is chair of the Pennsylvania Lawyers' Assessment Committee, a member of the Pennsylvania
Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Pennsylvania Association of Court Management, COSCA's
Board of Directors, COSCA's Committee on Court Technology, and the National Association of Women
Judges.
